The enemies of your jewelry are well known: water, humidity, acids, cosmetics, and heat. A few simple habits are all it takes to preserve their brilliance for years to come.
Before putting on your jewelry
– Apply perfume, moisturizer, and makeup first — wait until the products have been fully absorbed before putting on your jewelry.
– Avoid contact with alcohol, essential oils, concentrated fragrances, and cosmetic products: they can irreversibly dull enamels, feathers, and mother-of-pearl.
While wearing your jewelry
– Remove your jewelry before swimming (sea, pool, bath, shower) — chlorine is particularly harsh on gold plating.
– Remove your jewelry before any intense physical or sporting activity — perspiration accelerates oxidation.
– Avoid sleeping with fine necklaces, earrings, or bracelets — repeated mechanical stress weakens links and cords.
– In hot and humid climates, opt for wearing your jewelry in the evening, when the heat has subsided.
Storage and care
– Store each piece in
its original pouch or box, separately from other pieces to avoid scratching.
– Keep them in a dry place, away from direct light and humidity.
– Jewelry oxidizes when exposed to air — a sealed pouch significantly slows this process.
– Never store a piece that is still damp or has been in contact with perspiration.
