Caring for Your Jewelry: Gas Bijoux Care and Repair Guide

We all know what your jewelry’s enemies are: water, moisture, acids, cosmetics, and heat. A few simple habits are all it takes to keep it looking its best for years to come.

 Before putting on your jewelry

– Apply perfume, lotion, and makeup first, and wait for the products to absorb before putting on your jewelry.

– Avoid contact with alcohol, essential oils, concentrated perfumes, and cosmetics: they can permanently dull enamel, feathers, and mother-of-pearl.

When you wear your jewelry

– Remove your jewelry before going in the water (ocean, pool, bath, shower); chlorine is particularly harsh on gold plating.

– Remove your jewelry before engaging in any sports or intense physical activity; sweat accelerates oxidation.

– Avoid sleeping with your necklaces, earrings, or delicate bracelets on; repeated mechanical stress can weaken the links and fasteners.

– In hot, humid climates, it’s best to wear them in the evening, when the temperature cools down.

 Storage and Organization

– Store each piece of jewelry in its original pouch or box at
, separately from other pieces to prevent them from rubbing against each other.

– Store them in a dry place, away from direct light and moisture.

– Jewelry oxidizes when exposed to air; a sealed pouch significantly slows down this process.

– Never store jewelry while it is still damp or after it has come into contact with sweat.

Your jewelry will develop a patina over time. This is completely normal—in fact, it’s what gives it its character and history.

Gold or silver plating—that thin, precious layer that gives your jewelry its luster—fades naturally due to wear and tear, contact with the skin, and exposure to air. How quickly it fades depends directly on how you wear and care for your jewelry.

Gently rubbing the piece with a soft, dry cloth will remove the first signs of tarnish. If your jewelry remains "tarnished" despite this care, our workshop can restore it to its full luster.

Special cleaning solution (professional cleaner): starting at €10. Available in-store or through our customer service department. Not suitable for link bracelets, enamel jewelry, or pieces with rhinestones or porous stones.

 Re-gilding or re-silvering: starting at €30, performed by our partner laboratory in France. Estimated turnaround time: 8 weeks. Not available for link bracelets.

The gold plating is covered by our 2-year warranty, subject to normal use. Please include your proof of purchase.

Gas Bijoux only carefully selected turkey, rooster, partridge, and goose feathers—
—that are hand-dyed and hand-trimmed with animal welfare in mind.
Gently brush them with a soft, dry toothbrush, following the natural direction of the quills. Avoid exposure to moisture. Store them flat or hanging, without applying pressure to the feathers.

Gas Bijoux enamel, handcrafted in our Marseille workshop since 1975 (cold enamel), must never be tumbled or come into contact with alcohol or chemicals, as this may cause irreversible discoloration. A soft, dry cloth is sufficient.
Enamel on link bracelets is not covered by the Gas Bijoux warranty.

These materials do not tolerate sudden temperature changes or impacts. Care for them by applying a very small amount of monoi oil to a soft cloth; this will nourish the material and preserve its natural luster. Avoid soaking in water, ultrasonic cleaning, and any acidic products.

Acetate is a delicate material. Wipe it only with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid solvents, alcohol, or abrasive products.
Extreme temperatures—whether high or low—can distort the shape of acetate jewelry or make it brittle: extreme cold can cause it to break, while extreme heat can warp it. Store at a stable room temperature.

Leather is a fine material that develops a natural patina over time.
Avoid prolonged contact with water. A light application of colorless leather conditioner can nourish and protect the leather.

The cord can withstand occasional contact with cold water and can be rinsed if necessary. Avoid prolonged immersion, which can accelerate the oxidation of the metal parts. The macramé cord is more delicate and should be kept away from moisture.
